August bits: docs, Hollywood, and Windfalls

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 09:12, 13/8/2002 | , , , , ,

Adam Armstrong wrote in to tell us about riscosdocs.org (Link removed as per request), a project to put together some decent docs for RISC OS computers in a similar way to the Linux documentation project. This would have been a bigger posting, but an email to Adam bounced and without AcornSearch I can't seem to find anything about any previous documentation projects... Anyway, Adam's set the site up, got a US mirror running, and he just needs a few RISC OS/SGML/PHP/SQL ninjas to fill the space.

And now an appeal of another kind. If I say "favourite tech support bod", do I even need any more of an introduction for The Paul Vigay? Okay, cut to the chase. Paul's in yet another crop circle movie! Hot off the exposure from his appearance in the Signs documentary (Crop Circle Documentary: Uncovering the Signs) seen by 40 million Americans last week, he's now "starring" of a feature length documentary Crop Circles: Quest for the Truth by Academy-nominated, Emmy-winning doumentary maker William Gazecki. And Paul has been invited to the premiere. In Hollywood. And to a champagne reception in Beverly Hills. He even has a friend to stay with. So what's the problem? Being a poor tech support guy he can't afford the £600-700 'plane ticket to get out there. So, if you know how he can get to LA for 21st August for under 500 quid, or want to contribute cash (hey, it worked for the woman with shopping debts), get in touch. I still think fly to Las Vegas and hire an open top Ford Mustang for the 290-mile drive to LA, Paul...
[update: looks like Paul might be able to scrounge some of the cash off of the director.]

Finally, Windfall Engineering have dropped the subscription scheme for Viewfinder updates due to lack of interest. I would write more, but eh...

I'd appriciate it if you removed the link to riscosdocs.org's development page; it's not supposed to be public (yet), as it's the development page (also it might be gone when the site goes "live").

If anyone is interested in helping, drop me an email at takkaria@riscosdocs.org and we can talk about what needs doing. Thanks.

Note that that comment was the opinion of myself, and may not represent the other members of the riscosdocs.org team.

Thanks.

This is great! just what I've been waiting for a proper
site to cover the documtation of Riscos and its hardware.
I have some friends that would like to try our risc
computers but are reluctant due to the lack of
publically available information (sod all in public
libraries).Some would like 2nd hand RiscPC's or VA5000,
not vast amounts of money but you have to start
somewhere.
