Question. I thought the The Blue Danube playing when using the docking computer in Elite was added for the C64 port. But someone on Twitter swears that it was in the original BBC Micro version as well.

Looking online, I can't find any evidence it was ever in the Beeb version. Am I wrong?

Whilst I don't remember it myself, there were multiple versions of BBC Elite - "regular", Master, 6502-second processor, Master Compact and so on. Also Elite-A later for BBC.

To be honest, I don't remember any music in any of them. I can only recall (I think) weapons fire and explosions. But, it is nearly 30 years since I played the BBC version, I think.

Yeah, I was aware of the different versions, and wondered if it had been added to the Tube version or something. I couldn't find any reference to it, though.

Of course, the easy way to find this out would be to just play Elite, but I always was absolutely bloody terrible at it. (The reason I need this information is not because I intend on playing it any time soon!)

As you say, there's zero online evidence of it. Indeed it (music, and Blue Danube in particular) is specified in several places as being a later non-Acorn addition.

IIRC even ArcElite didn't have music. It would have been very odd for any BBC version to have music, and the Arc version not, since ArcElite has long been upheld as the most "definitive" post-BBC edition in terms of additions vs remaining true to the original.

Whilst this is all circumstantial, I'd say it puts the onus is on the original claimant to prove his claim, or accept he's wrong.

I've only ever played the BBC Micro version, and I'm certain there wasn't any music, just a rush of relief when I didn't hit the station!
