Ah, the music for Phaethon was particularly good
I seem to remember triggering a bug/easter egg by completing a level just before the music was about to loop - you started the next level with a completely different tune! (Which you couldn't hear by playing the game normally). |

Hello you posted on my Hamsters video. The Phaeton music is probably one of the best game tracks ever. Sometimes I fire up the RiscPC and just leave it playing in the background on a tracker. |

Many thanks for your comments - I'm glowing with embarassement here - the Phaethon music was a pretty intense job due to the sheer amount of tunes required in a short period of time. I seem to remember the whole lot was produced in under two weeks!
For quite some time I've been tempted to release the entire Phaethon music suite in MP3 format on the net. It is around one hour continuous play from memory. The original Tracker files were compressed/encrypted on the original game so I'm not sure they are easily playable on the arc outside of the game.
Many years ago I converted the suite to ProTracker format so it would be fairly easy for me to master these in much higher quality than the Arc could produce with a touch of compression and effects processing in the studio.
Interested?

That would be superb. It will go straight onto the ipod. When I was a kid I did a remix of it. I'll hunt it out! I have got a tracker file of it ripped from the game. I can't remember how, maybe used desktop hacker?

Hmmm... the whole lot is in 8 Tracker modules - which one did you rip??
Intro Interlevel Zones 1 to 5 End Theme
Each of the 5 in game modules contains at least 5 tunes.

OK I will try and find some time to remaster the Phaethon suite onto MP3 this weekend.
In the meantime several of the Amiga tracks I've remade in the studio over the last couple of years were ported to the Arc in the early 90's - you might recognise some - feel free to download them:

I love listening to game music - it's a genre that deserves more recognition. Just from playing the games I'm sure I've listened to the music from Phaethon, Nevryon, Myst, Metroid Prime, and so on, much more than any albums I own. Nintendo released several soundtrack albums in Japan which have somehow ended up my iPod (), but I'd love for there to be more. If Doctor Who can have a Proms event, why can't video games? |

http://www.videogameslive.com/index.php?s=home Closer to (my) home, if not quite a proms type event yet: GameCity 3 usually do Teh Muziks. It was Jonathan Coulton last year, this year apparently he's back playing scary stuff 'cos it's Halloween, and "Press Play on Tape" (C64 revival band) and "Powerplay" (no idea) will "take to the stage to rock the gaming world."
I'll stop plugging my home city now. ________ Cheers, Rich.

Hello All,
I've converted the entire Phaethon sound track to mp3 format. The resultant archive is over 50Mbytes - Is this something The Icon Bar could host?? If so - let me know how I can upload it.
Cheers,
Dan, HideawayStudio. |
