I think the Skirmish programmer was Russell Palmer, and Chris Joseph was another Kindred Software person.

Missing / incomplete:

This was never released. Seems to have been a breakdown in communications in the development team that put a stop to it.

Graphics Artist Daniel Amend's recollections. He also has a page about the stuff he did for Iron Dignity. Quite an interesting site, I only just found it. smile

The Saloon Cars Deluxe manual is on Ebay now.

Also, I think RCI had a conversion of 'Duke Nukem' I and Oolite was also converted for RISC OS.

Update on current position:

7 - Contributors (they've provided 57 scan sets and 33 floppy sets)
586 - Known games
71 - Games imaged (128 floppies in total)
30 - Complete JFDI's (PDF manuals, box scans, snapshots, JFD images etc)
247 - Games loaded and snapshots created
288 - Missing games
4 - License owners that have contacted JASPP about the project
15 - License owners/developers contacted by JASPP (10 have responded)
6 - License owners/developers that have given permission to release their titles through JASPP
73 - Original titles purchased/donated as part of the project
53 - Titles that can be officially released

Other interesting facts:

Of the top 100 games listed by Acorn User in the 93/94 list, JASPP now have permission to release the top 5 and overall 28 of the top 100.

When will they be released? Firstly, the website needs to be available and secondly, each title needs verifying on various hardware / OS versions and in many cases, the titles are destructive requiring loader scripts to be created, before they'll load without ruining CMOS / Module configs.

Although JASPP has gained permission to release titles, many have yet to be located and scanned / imaged.

BUZZ versions were budget releases by Krisalis in small, square packets with modified artwork. The cartons were about 1cm thick, and contained discs and minimal instructions (typically one sheet). I believe SWIV, Chuck Rock and Mad Prof had that treatment, although I'd need to check the shelf.

I can imagine collectors being turned off by the Buzz stuff, but it made for cheap re-releases just like modern outlets such as Mastertronic, Sold Out etc.

Update on current position:

593 - Known games
107 - Games imaged (193 floppies in total)
62 - Complete JFDI's (PDF manuals, box scans, snapshots, JFD images etc)
270 - Games loaded and snapshots created
308 - Missing games
75 - Original titles purchased/donated as part of the project

Quite a lot of imaging and scanning since the last update, over 10% of known titles are now complete, with PDF manuals, box scans, floppy images etc. A further 38 are in progress for completion, so we should have around 100 complete in Jan/Feb.

Sadly, not a lot has gone on with contacting developers/publishers, as our researcher hasn't been very well.

A big thank-you to the contributors for all their efforts in scanning and imaging over the past six months.

I'd also like to thank all the game authors that have contacted the project, all have been extremely supportive and generous in giving permission...we're just waiting on the publishers to match their generosity.

Thanks also go to the web developers that have come forward and offered their time to get the website designed, I appreciate your efforts. I'm looking forward to getting the authorised titles available to the world early next year...no pressure!

Finally, I'd like to thank the various people that have helped with the low level issues whilst coding ADFFS, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Looks like a great amount of work has already been done here - well done chaps! Due to being busy and a computer failure I've not checked in here for a while, but have a lot of software that would probably benefit being archived (currently at my Mum & Dad's, possibly in their shed!) so hopefully once I get some time I'll go through everything once again to contribute smile

The Acorn 32-bit Gaming preview said, "Kindred Software are hard at work on various releases, including a port of a well-known 16-bit game". I wonder what the port was going to be.
I believe that referred to Chaos Engine that I was working on. This got handed to RCI.

There are quite a few games I've never seen on the preservation project list. Could you do screenshots of some of the more obscure ones, like the Eterna and Coin-Age titles?

Unplayable is the best category for it.

You move left/right, duck and jump to avoid things that come at you. It's the sort of game you load, play for 30 seconds and then delete out of frustration!

The graphics are good though.

EDIT: If anyone has English instructions for it, we could do with the scans.

Heh, OK. Is Paradroid 2000 quite playable? I believe it's a port, but I've never played the original either.

It is. It's only working on RO4 at the minute though, so when I get time, I'll see if I can convert the modules to 32bit and get it running on RO5.

I'd certainly be quite excited to see it working on ARMv7. Looking at PlingStore downloads (primarily Pi users), the entertainment/games downloads account for a large percentage of the downloads, so there is clearly a demand for more ARMv7-safe games/ports.
