The DS is the only WiFi wotsit I have and am likely to own in the forseeable future, so buying their adaptor when I got the console looked like a reasonable thing to do. Yes, but you still don't need the Nintendo one. Any other USB wifi access point doofer will do too. |

Yes, but I didn't know of anywhere obvious to get a USB wifi access point doofer near to where I bought the console

Yeah, I might do.
Do. My first DS had a dead pixel, and GAME swapped it without even looking at the reciept to prove I bought it there!
If the shop you got it from won't swap it, I believe Nintendo will swap it for you.
Have you ported RISC OS to it yet, then? |

It did suprise me, though, that the wrist strap is in a silly place, so doesn't actually reach where you're supposed to use the thumb-pad-thing to move Mario around with, so I usually end up detatching it to play that game |

Well I don't particularly like fat plumbers, but the games that come out of Nintendo are generally a lot more fun than the games that come out of other companies.
We're all highly addicted to Mario Kart: Double Dash on the Gamecube in our house down here at uni at the moment.. |

Are you sure about that? The boxes for the USB wifi doofers that I found seemed quite insitent that I also needed a wifi router.

1. Can't that be leveled at the DS anyway - Mario-whatevers have already been done to death on numerous Nintendo console variations. 10 to 1 the "Revolution" will be more of the same, but with a weird controller.
2. I haven't bought a PSP yet either, for pretty much the reason you said. Apparently it's good media machine, but I have a laptop.

Well they're not the right sort of doofer. You need a usb wifi access point, not a usb wifi adapter.

I think I could configure my Mac's wireless card to work as a wifi access point, if I wasn't already using the wifi for internet access. |

I think we have a challenge: get the Rich to buy a DS or Revolution by the end of the year.
There haven't been that many Mario games...

Okay:
Make sure you have 802.11b switched on on your router (I have 11b+11g mixed mode)
Enable WEP security (disable anything more sophisticated)
Turn off anything which promises to speed things up - my Belkin router had something called g-Nitro turned on, which didn't work with the DS (or Bittorrent)
If DHCP doesn't work, you can set it up manually.
You can enter the error codes at www.nintendowifi.com to diagnose what's wrong. It's actually helpful help! |

Already done most of that, although the fact that the router model number is very close to one of the ones on the unsupported list doesn't suggest I'll have much luck getting it to work
