November News Dump

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 13:07, 27/11/2001 | ,

I've been so busy this month, I haven't even bothered to think up a new title since posting another catch-up on TIB.

The main news for this month is the release of ScummVM, a player for LucasArts PC adventure games such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle and Indiana Jones 4. After a posting on our comments page I was all ready to post about it, made a few 'phone calls about availabilty of games, and then promptly forgot to take it any further, so apologies for the lateness of this one. Apparently CJE were (shock, horror) saying they had some suitable CDs in stock.

Infocom cross-platform virtual machine thingummy Zip 2000 has also been updated, so if you can't get enough retro adventure games, zip along to the Zip 2000 home page.

If you're in to RISK (the board game that is), check out the RISK website which has a number of updates to this world domination game. Some nutter's even hacked the old Beeb/Electron game Empire to play nice(r) with RISC OS machines, some people have too much time on their hands...

And there's a rumour (okay, a posting from Artex bod Jan Klose on comp.sys.acorn.games) that TEK will see a pre-Christmas launch, with a try-before-you-buy demo following hard on its heels in case you need some persuading. And yes, that's this Christmas...

Unregistered user WRT to ScummVM the best place IMHO to get games is from Electronics Boutique, who sell a pack called the Monkey Island Bounty Pack for around 20 ukp, they also do a Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max pack (although this version of the latter won't work right atm). They have a website from which you can order online - http://www.eb.uk.com

Also it would be preferable for people to get to the ScummVM page via my main page :
http://www.acornemus.freeserve.co.uk

Otherwise you miss out on the screenshots, links and whatever else I feel like adding. Also the news about new releases is mentioned on the main page -> which save checking version numbers!

New release rsn btw... just need to iron out some bugs with my sound & MIDI playback.

Unregistered user David - that's what you get for using nasty horrible frames on your website ;)

I used to work for EB - never trusted them since!
