Colour Gameboy emulator released (28/12/98)

David McEwen has annouced the release of the first colour Gameboy emulator for the Acorn. 'Acorn VGB' (virtual Gameboy) allows us to play practically the whole range of Gameboy games, including the newer colour ones. The emulator works best on a StrongARM RiscPC, but there is currently no sound support.

Acorn VGB can be found on David's website at http://www.lizjay.demon.co.uk/david/.

Xenocide released (20/12/98)

Skullsoft, authors of the adventure game Ayra, have released their vertically scrolling shoot'em up game Xenocide. Expect a full review of the shareware game in the next few days, but for now, the preview is still available.

Noticed yet? (13/12/98)

Not content to rest on our laurels, the Acorn Arcade team have decided to implement our fourth design since our launch in February this year. In the most wide-ranging redesign of the site so far, we have decided to implement a completely frames-free design, and in fact the main index will now even display perfectly on ArcWeb.

To coincide with the redesign of the site, we have also decided that is time for fresh blood on the team to continue to grow and improve.

Co-founder and webmaster, Alasdair Bailey, has decided to give up his position as webmaster to take up the position of Games Editor at Acorn User. However he will remain on the team for the forseeable future. Also we have had to say goodbye to the Quake section maintainer, John Duffey. We wish him all the best.

Four new members have now been appointed (to be named and shamed soon!), and several entirely new sections are being planned as a consequence. Tim Fountain, news editor since joining some months after the founding of the site, has been appointed as the new webmaster/editor and has accepted Alasdair's joint share in the site with Graham Crockford, designer and co-founder.

Keep watching the site to see the new burst of growth that we have planned for the Christmas season and beyond!

Acorn Midlands show (11/12/98)

The Acorn Midlands show was a successful event with the hall being packed for most of the day. The main news from the show is that CJE and the steering group have secured a deal with Acorn to market RISC OS 4 as an upgrade to existing RiscPC owners. No further details are known at this stage but there was also an Acorn press release posted on the wall at the entrance to the show declaring that the steering group and Acorn are back on track with their negotiations.
